The company Gerd Hofmann is known for everything that has two or four wheels and lets out some smoke! The origins of this family workshop date back to the 1870s when the great-grandfather Anton Zenker founded the “Zenkerei”, a little family business for timber and toys. In those days the machines for woodturning were still driven by water wheels.

Despite the great economic difficulties after World War II, and a long interruption of his woodturning activities after the foundation of the GDR, the workshop has nowadays become a well-known and successful small business that combines traditional crafts with a lot of humor, great skillfulness and modern motifs. In 1973 Helmut Hofmann (son of Marie Zenker who married a member of the Hofmann family) could finally begin to make little items from wood again.

The enthusiasm for the traditional wood art of his homeland and the inherited talent lives on in his son Gerd. It is not too hard to guess which are the two passions of Gerd Hofmann: In his series of smoking motorcycles Gerd Hofmann shares his love for motorbikes and handmade wooden art.
